Monthly test of the Tippecanoe County outdoor warning siren system. This is a Federal Thunderbeam (RSH-10) Siren, rated at about 123dB@100′. This unit is broken and will hopefully be fixed or replaced soon.

I filmed this during the night time drill on Indiana’s statewide tornado drill day. I was not able to be home to film this so I left the camera going. I’ll try to get a better video some other time. Pretty sure the only sirens heard are 2001’s.

This poor quality video was taken with my cell phone back in March when Indiana conducted it’s statewide tornado drill around 7pm. I’ve put off uploading this because of the bad quality but I decided to anyways. Sirens heard are a 2T22, a 3T22, a STH10, and some 2001’s. Filmed near Purdue West at Purdue University.

This is an audio recording of the Tippecanoe County siren test for April of ‘09. This was recorded from my bedroom window. You can hear many 2001 AC’s and a Thunderbolt 1000T. You should be able to hear a Thunderbeam, but it failed to activate.

Tippecanoe County Siren Test 2

This is the 2001-DC that was heard in my last video. It’s located at Hwy 52 and Morehouse Rd. in West Lafayette. This was filmed during the monthly test of the Tippecanoe County Outdoor Warning System which is done on the first Saturday of each month at 11am (haven’t changed the camcorder clock from daylight savings time).

Thought I’d get a recording of Purdue’s sirens being tested while walking to the football game. You can hear the Thunderbolt 1000T on West Lafayette High School and the 2T22 on the Pharmacy building.

2T22 in Clarks Hill, IN (Tippecanoe County)

This siren is the southwestern-most unit inside the TEMA system. I was kind of surprised by this siren’s location. It isn’t near any of the municipal buildings in town, (like most sirens in small towns) in fact, it is on the southern edge of town in a neighborhood. I have reason to believe that this siren might be on a phase converter. You can’t hear it in the video, but about 5 or so seconds before this siren starts making noise, I heard what sounded like some kind of electric motor/electric noises start. Also, there is an impressive array of boxes for this siren, more than the usual 2 or 3. I have a feeling this siren was originally in the laf/west laf area and was moved to South County when TEMA “annexed” everyones EMO’s. (The city itself has a Model 2 on top of the VFD for fire calls.)

This is most certainly not my best video, so please excuse the poor quality and the chatterbox friend I took along for the ride.
