For a couple with such Jewish-sounding surnames, the wedding celebrations of Miss Carmel and Mr Gerschcowit are distinctly secular in flavour. In fact, the 20s are far more in evidence than Judaism: the music comes courtesy of the San Diego Dance Band, the female guests sport flapper dresses and bobs, and the dancing is more ‘Strictly’ than ’shtetl’.
But look beyond the blushing bride for a magical glimpse of the East End’s rag trade, and while the young women channel Tallulah Bankhead, the young men grin nervously in their stiff dark suits, eternal bar mitzvah boys. Watch out for the boy showing off for the camera at the reception – once youve spotted him, its hard to look at anyone else. (Marianne Levy)

Roy Orbison and Friends (A Black & White Night) 1987 – Blue Bayou
This concert was taped in black and white and featured many of Orbison’s hits at the Ambassador Hotel’s Coconut Grove nightclub in Los Angeles. It was taped on September 30, 1987, approximately a year before his death on December 6, 1988. It was originally broadcast on January 3, 1988 on the premium cable channel HBO (Home Box Office).
According to Wikipedia…
It was put together by musical director T-Bone Burnett. Orbison was accompanied by a supporting backing band which included many notable musical performers. All were fans who volunteered to participate in the special. Other celebrity admirers of Orbison were in the audience, including Billy Idol, Sandra Bernhard, and Kris Kristofferson. The backing band was the TCB Band, which accompanied Elvis Presley from 1969 until his death in 1977. The band included Glen D. Hardin on piano, James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry Scheff on bass, and Ronnie Tutt on drums. Male background vocalists, some of whom also joined in on guitar, were Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, and Steven Soles. The female background vocalists were K.D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Bonnie Raitt.

The Southern University Marching Band performs at the Louisiana Superdome during the 1995 Bayou Classic football game between Southern and Grambling.
Drum Major: Chandler Green
They were about to play “Thriller” when the video ends. The network only showed about 10 seconds of it anyway.
(I always thought they sounded much better than Grambling too.)
