Blue Bayou" is the title of a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson and sung by Orbison. The best known version remains Linda Ronstadt’s 1977 cover, which was a top-ten pop, country and easy listening single in the U.S.; the song was included on Ronstadt’s Triple-Platinum-Plus Simple Dreams album.
In my opinion Roy’s version is much better and I remember when it was released in England in 1963 when I was 16. Roy had had previous hits with ‘In Dreams’ and minor ones with ‘Running Scared’ and ‘Crying’. My friends and I couldn’t believe the perfect voice and tones that Roy produced. Marvellous.
Some years later someone ran a computer test to find the most perfect voice intonation and, not surprisingly, Roy came first. Second was John Lennon, beating such people as Frank Sinatra, who came about No 56. References :
